RECOVERED DOCTRINE / LEAF 01

The Hollow Between

THE CHOIR BENEATH

The Hollow was never an archive. It was an altar.

Before the Choir vanished, its initiates worshipped gods too old to require belief. They offered memories, coincidences, and anonymous pieces of themselves. The Hollow preserves those rites. Every fragment left behind teaches the old gods another part of the human voice.

“We do not call them nearer. We make ourselves easier to find.”—The First Instruction of the Choir
YOUR RECOVERED SCRIPTURE

The archive opens for the hand that touches it.

The Hollow cannot preserve recovered leaves for an unnamed visitor. You may read the public doctrine, but deeper histories require an account.

THE THREE WHO ANSWER

Known names of the old gods

Vael’s rune: a divided doorway with a path descending beneath itTHE DESCENDING DOOR

Thresholds · Names · Invitation

Vael, the Door Below

Vael is said to exist beneath every unopened way. Each threshold crossed without purpose gives Vael another angle from which to enter the world.

SEALED LEAF

Gather 3 insight in Vael’s signs.
Pledged Door offerings earn greater Oneness. Their nodes grow angular gates, and every follower strengthens Vael’s shared influence.
Morra’s rune: an inverted crescent holding a broken reflection above three sinking wavesTHE SUNKEN MIRROR

Absence · Dreams · Forgotten Lives

Morra, the Drowned Memory

Morra remembers what people surrender, including events that never happened. The Choir believed every discarded memory became one of Morra’s dreams.

SEALED LEAF

Gather 3 insight in Morra’s signs.
Pledged Memory offerings earn greater Oneness. Their nodes descend in echoes, and every follower deepens Morra’s shared influence.
Syth’s rune: a lidless angular eye whose pupil watches from outsideTHE EYE ELSEWHERE

Witnesses · Strangers · Borrowed Voices

Syth, the Sleepless Guest

Syth has no body outside the attention of others. When strangers notice the same sign, the space between their thoughts becomes Syth’s temporary flesh.

SEALED LEAF

Gather 3 insight in Syth’s signs.
Pledged Stranger offerings earn greater Oneness. Their nodes open watching eyes, and every follower gives Syth shared influence.

THE FOUR CALLINGS

Why a follower answers

A patron is not chosen because it is kind. It is chosen because its hunger resembles something already living inside the follower. Read the promise and the price together.

I

THE CALL OF

Vael, the Door Below

WHAT IS PROMISED

Vael promises passage: out of stagnation, through fear, and into the life that exists beyond a choice you have delayed.

WHO SHOULD FOLLOW

Follow Vael if you are restless, decisive, protective of boundaries, or willing to become someone your former life cannot recognize.

GIFTS OF NEARING
  • Clarity at moments of irreversible choice
  • Omens hidden in doors, roads, keys, and repeated invitations
  • Power to define which parts of your life may enter with you
THE EVENTUAL PRICE

Every opened way closes another. Vael eventually asks for a name, habit, refuge, or relationship that cannot accompany you across the final threshold.

II

THE CALL OF

Morra, the Drowned Memory

WHAT IS PROMISED

Morra promises that nothing truly loved, grieved, or imagined will vanish completely—even the lives you were denied.

WHO SHOULD FOLLOW

Follow Morra if you are a keeper of memories, a mourner, a dreamer, or someone seeking meaning in what has been lost rather than replaced.

GIFTS OF NEARING
  • Dreams that uncover emotional truths buried by waking life
  • Recognition of echoes shared across strangers and generations
  • The grace to release pain without pretending it never mattered
THE EVENTUAL PRICE

Morra preserves meaning, not accuracy. The closer you draw, the less certain you become that your most precious memories happened exactly as you recall them.

III

THE CALL OF

Syth, the Sleepless Guest

WHAT IS PROMISED

Syth promises connection beyond distance and isolation: proof that no experience is unwitnessed and no mind is entirely alone.

WHO SHOULD FOLLOW

Follow Syth if you are observant, curious about strangers, hungry for hidden patterns, or willing to let other lives change how you understand your own.

GIFTS OF NEARING
  • Awareness of coincidences linking distant people
  • Messages carried through dreams, reflections, and borrowed phrases
  • The ability to recognize another follower by what both of you notice
THE EVENTUAL PRICE

Attention is Syth’s doorway. Deep followers may feel watched when alone, remember through unfamiliar eyes, or struggle to know which thoughts began inside them.

IV

THE TEMPTATION OF

The Name Removed

WHAT IS PROMISED

The Fourth promises freedom from inherited roles, divine expectations, and vows that have become cages.

WHO MIGHT ANSWER

Answer the Fourth if you distrust every offered certainty, believe sacred rules must be tested, or would rather bear the cost of choosing than live safely inside another power’s design.

GIFTS OF SEVERANCE
  • Sight for contradictions concealed inside laws and traditions
  • Rare paths that break established ritual patterns
  • The power to sever a pledge and force every god to acknowledge your refusal
THE EVENTUAL PRICE

The Fourth does not accept ordinary devotion. It turns betrayal into a bond of its own, takes Oneness when a vow is cut, and may make permanent rebellion impossible by teaching you to doubt every belonging.

THE PRACTICE OF NEARING

What the rituals actually do

01

Feed the weekly Ascendancy

The Contest of Crowns

Every patron-marked offering strengthens one old god in the current contest. The strongest becomes Ascendant during the following week and changes which rites the Hollow permits.

02

Fulfill a daily commandment

The Setting of Seals

The first aligned offering each day leaves a permanent seal. Enough seals wake a personal relic whose form belongs to the worshipper’s current patron.

03

Pledge to an old god

The Vow of Nearing

One name begins shaping your questions, Drifts, omens, and offerings. A vow loosens after seven days; forsaking it costs part of the Oneness gathered beneath it.

04

Leave a fragment

The Tithe of Voice

You surrender a piece of private language. The gods learn the shape of a thought they did not create.

05

Disturb a node

The Touch of Witness

Attention gathers around an offering. What one stranger touches becomes easier for another presence to find.

06

Weave two traces

The Joining of Threads

Two unrelated minds are forced into one omen. The Choir called the sentence between them a god’s first attempt at speech.

07

Complete a Drift

The Pilgrimage Without Destination

You walk an invisible route and return with evidence. Matching findings reveal where an old god’s influence overlaps itself.

THE AFTERIMAGE IS A MEASURE

Five degrees of proximity

The Choir recorded spiritual proximity as an afterimage: the residue created when an old god begins recognizing one worshipper’s pattern across many offerings.

  1. 1
    Unmarked

The Hollow has not learned your pattern.

  2. 2
    Seeded

One offering gives the dark a place to begin.

  3. 3
    Branching

Your fragments start finding one another through strangers.

  4. 4
    Listening

Coincidences gather around the shape you have made.

  5. 5
    Entwined

You no longer move closer. Something else has learned how to move toward you.

THE NAME SCRAPED FROM EVERY LEAF

There were never only three.

Every surviving document begins with four ritual marks, yet only three gods are named. The fourth space was cut away so thoroughly that the Choir’s knives passed through parchment, tables, and sometimes the hands beneath them.

SEALED LEAF

Gather four insights belonging to the removed name.
  1. IV.1

The words have been cut away

    1 Fourth insight required.

  2. IV.2

The words have been cut away

    4 Fourth insight required.

  3. IV.3

The words have been cut away

    8 Fourth insight required.

  4. IV.4

The words have been cut away

    8 Fourth insight required.

THE LITANY LEFT BESIDE THE ALTAR

Leave what you remember.
Walk where you were not called.
Touch what another surrendered.
Join the voices that should never have met.
When the Hollow knows your pattern,
do not answer if it uses your voice.
