HOW TO PLAY / FIELD REFERENCE

The Initiate’s Codex

Clear instructions for entering the Hollow. Its deeper answers remain sealed.

READ THIS FIRST

You do not need to understand everything at once.

Touch nodes, leave one thoughtful fragment, and follow what changes. An account is optional for exploring, but signing in preserves progression and allows pledges, public identity, Communion, Oneness, and lasting rewards.

Begin the guided initiation
CHAPTER I

Your first visit

  1. Accept the entertainment notice.

It confirms that the gods, omens, and rituals are fictional parts of the experience.

  2. Follow the initiation.

The moving guide highlights the next part of the page and teaches the central ritual.

  3. Touch the lights.

Select different floating nodes to reveal fragments left by other visitors.

  4. Leave a fragment.

Choose a bargain, write at least 12 relevant characters, then hold the submission control. Enter alone never submits.

  5. Create an account when ready.

Anonymous visitors can explore. An account is required to preserve Oneness, seals, lore, pledges, paths, and Chronicle entries.

CHAPTER II

Controls and accessibility

The Hollow can be explored with a pointer, touchscreen, or keyboard. These controls are optional—use whichever method is most comfortable.

Navigate the living field

Press Tab until the living field is focused. Use the Arrow keys to move between nodes, Home or End to jump to the first or last node, and Enter or Space to reveal the selected node.

Weave with a keyboard

Activate “Weave two traces,” then use the Arrow keys and Enter or Space to choose two different nodes. Press Escape at any time to cancel the weave.

Know what is selected

A bright dashed ring marks the keyboard-selected node. Screen readers announce each node, its nature, disturbance history, revealed traces, and completed weaves.

Change the presentation

Settings includes larger text, high contrast, reduced motion and flicker, and reduced visual effects. These preferences stay saved on this device.

If animation, flicker, small text, or low contrast makes the ritual difficult, open Settings → Accessibility before continuing.

CHAPTER III

Nodes and offerings

What is a node?

A node is a fragment preserved in the living field. Touch one to reveal it. Disturbing a node changes its history and can reveal signs of earlier visitors.

What is an offering?

Your first qualifying fragment or completed Drift of the day can count as your daily offering. Additional nodes can enrich the archive, but cannot repeatedly earn daily Oneness.

Why was my writing rejected?

Fragments must meet the length, relevance, cooldown, and language rules. Rewrite the thought in your own words and answer the requested offering directly.

Why do visible nodes change?

The field shows up to 64 at once. When the archive grows beyond that, the visible set is drawn from the larger collection rather than showing every node simultaneously.

CHAPTER IV

Thread-Sight and weaving

Weaving joins exactly two different nodes. Their order matters and may open a personal adventure, a rotating mystery, or movement in a shared divine campaign.

  1. Unlock Thread-Sight.

Explore and reveal the required number of different lights. The field will tell you when the ability is ready.

  2. Select “Weave two traces.”

Choose the first node, then a different second node. A selected node cannot be woven with itself.

  3. Enter the Woven Path.

Follow the resulting path into a branching trial. Logic, observation, ciphers, and moral choices may appear.

  4. Complete the trial.

Successful paths can advance badges, unlock abilities, influence later branches, and enter your Chronicle.

The Codex explains the loom, not its answers. Cipher solutions, secret badges, rare events, and hidden branches must still be discovered.

CHAPTER V

Oneness, seals, and the Chronicle

Oneness
Your long-term measure of participation. A relevant daily offering, completed Drift, and certain objectives can advance it. Missing days causes an increasing loss.
Seals
Milestone rewards earned through meaningful progress. Some belong to devotion paths, woven trials, rare encounters, or secrets and may evolve through stages.
Chronicle
Your private history of offerings, Drifts, pledges, woven paths, lore, seals, and consequential choices. Its appearance responds to the god whose path most shapes you.
Reliquary
The profile display for seals, badges, and other lasting marks you have earned.

Progress is intentionally slow. Spamming nodes, messages, or repeated actions does not create unlimited rewards.

CHAPTER VI

Pledging to an old god

Signed-in followers may pledge to one old god. A pledge changes the rituals, omens, node forms, aligned offerings, lore, and shared influence they encounter.

VAEL

The threshold

Favors doors, crossings, descent, and the courage to enter what cannot be undone.

MORRA

The memory

Favors remembrance, reflection, grief, and what survives beneath forgotten surfaces.

SYTH

The watcher

Favors observation, strangers, displaced perspective, and truths seen from the wrong place.

THE FOURTH

The absence

Does not receive ordinary pledges. It enters through temptation, betrayal, and the untouched space between loyalties.

After your first vow, changing allegiance requires seven days and costs Oneness. Read Reason before choosing.

CHAPTER VII

Drifts

A Drift gives you an intention to investigate either inside the site or in the physical world. Return with a written observation and a choice about what happened.

Online Drift

Follow a separate ritual entirely within the Hollow. Explore its signs and report what you noticed.

Real-world Drift

Observe a safe, lawful, public place. The site never requests or stores your precise location.

Never trespass, drive while using the site, enter abandoned or hazardous places, or continue when a prompt feels unsafe. A Drift is optional fiction—not an instruction to take risks.

Block a follower from a Communion message or their public profile to hide their messages and rare profile encounters while signed in. Manage or undo blocks in Settings. Blocks do not erase content, hide anonymous nodes, or stop someone viewing public pages while signed out.

CHAPTER VIII

Profiles and Communion

Public identity

A signed-in follower can choose a unique ritual name. Public profiles may show seals, reliquary, Oneness rank, pledged god, and divine influence—but never the login email.

Rare encounters

Other profiles are discovered through uncommon encounters in the Hollow rather than a public directory.

Communion

The shared chamber is open to recognized followers. God-specific chambers require a pledge to that god. Messages remain for seven days.

Safety tools

Report harmful nodes, messages, or profiles. Moderators can review reports, remove content, issue warnings, and restrict abusive accounts.

CHAPTER IX

When the Hollow does not answer

I cannot weave two nodes.
Reveal enough different nodes to unlock Thread-Sight, select the weaving ability, then choose two separate traces. If fewer than two nodes are available, return after the field changes.
My offering did not earn Oneness.
Only one qualifying offering counts each day. It must answer the requested prompt and pass the site’s relevance and safety checks.
I cannot enter a god’s chamber.
You must be signed in and currently pledged to that chamber’s god.
The site says the connection is quiet.
Your unfinished writing is preserved on the device. Reconnect and use “Try again.” Do not repeat a submission whose result is still uncertain.
My installed app looks outdated.
Close and reopen it, or refresh the page while connected. A dedicated update notification is planned for a later release.
I still need help.
